Why does the Bible say that when a righteous man (or woman) pray that it is effective? Is God trying to say that for those that don’t measure up in good deeds, or fall short in some besetting sin having a specific weakness for a given temptation that God does not hear there prayer? By no means!
James 5:16 says “16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
1 Peter 3:12 states “12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
So to some it might seem like God is saying you have to be this …. good for me to answer you prayer. No. Lets look at why the righteous man’s prayer might be more effective, then say someone that’s more selfish. When a righteous man is praying he is going to be praying for things that are in sink with God’s will. A righteous man is not praying a fox hole prayer (a prayer blurted out in the midst of distress and quickly forgotten). A righteous man knows God’s will because he is reading God’s will and God never has a problem granting prayers that are in accordance with His will because He knows that is what it best for us. Now if we self centered in our prayer, praying for our own wants and selfish desires we are not so quick to see the movement of God’s hand because God’s purpose for blessing us is for Him to get the Glory not just to make our lives easier.
To sum it up the content and quality of a righteous man’s prayer is what is going to move God’s hand because it is going to be in accordance to God’s will, we can pray morning and night but if we are praying for something that is out of the scope of God’s will God will answer your prayer and the answer will be no.
