Declaring War in the Heavinlies

Ephesians 6:12 Our battle is not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities of this dark age, therefore we must equip ourselves with armor and weaponry to prepare ourself to be part of the Army of the Lord. Here you will find weekly teachings, thoughts and discussions to help you keep your mind centered on the things of His kingdom. May God give you strength, wisdom and grace through all that you do.

How important is Repentance

What is Repentance; How seriously does God take it; Is it a one time thing (“I said a prayer now I’m done with, can I go on sinning”); What if I believe in God but I never truly repented?

Lets first look at how the Bible defines Repentance:

Ezekiel 18:30-31
“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid your selves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel?

God clearly defines the steps to repentance…
  • Turning away from all offenses you have committed
  • Get a new heart and a new spirit
    • 2nd Corinthians 5:17 “Anyone who is in Christ he is a new creation the old has gone the new has come”
    • Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, the life I live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and Gave Himself for me”
Acts 17:30 tells us that “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.

It is only through the act of repentance that we are blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit (God’s presence here with us now on Earth).  In Acts 2:38 Peter command us to “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

What about when we do repent and we fall back to our old ways, the Christian walk becomes too hard; the ways of the world slip in and before we know it were walking our old walk or worse?

 Hebrews 6:5, 6 tells us:
“...who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.”
Obviously Christ died once for the sins of the world, yours, mine, your aunt Sally's, everyones but the Bible says in Luke 15:7 "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents then over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.  Well in the same way what do you think it will be when the righteous regress to debauchery?  Of course Jesus doesn't want to loose anyone, we are washed in His blood.  Walking away from Christ and having to come back again is an unnecessary use of His blood and a disgrace to Him. At first we were ignorant to His love, to our sin, but then with for knowledge of his love, and our sin we recklessly turned away and the people who knew the follower of Christ one day carrying a Bible and going to church said to themselves "he is worst then "me" " the next. This is a bad look for Christians and a bad look for Jesus.

In the Gospel of John 6:39 it reads “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given me, but raise them up at the last day.” It is God’s will that all will be saved.  God clearly says it His desire for all to be saved 2nd Timothy 2:3-6 “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.” Unfortunately it is obvious this is not the way history is going to pan out.  Many will not repent, many will not be saved.  Matthew 7:14 “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

In the last book of the Bible the book of Revelation states 2:21-23:
“I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.”
This is how serious God takes repentance:
·         Faith is not enough
·         Good works is not enough
·         Prayer is not enough
·         Reading your Bible is not enough
·         Being a good person is not enough
·         Unless you repent of your sins (making a prayerful and sincere effort to turn from the things in your life that are not of God) You are not saved.
